In Virtual Reality 111 ☆ EXTRA 2

Updated: Sep 11, 2023

"Shi Qin, I'll head upstairs first, alright?" Shi Qin's roommate, waving her phone, interrupted her thoughts in the hospital outpatient lobby. She smiled and added, "Could you please wait for me a bit?"

Luo Shi Qin (罗诗琴: Silken Poem/Net of Zither/Gauzy Music) shrugged, "Sure, let's hit the mall for some hot pot later."

"Sounds great!" Her roommate beamed with excitement and then turned her attention to the hospital signboard, heading up to the second floor, leaving Luo Shi Qin to stand alone.

It was a calm Sunday morning at the hospital, neither too crowded nor eerily empty. People flowed around Luo Shi Qin, occasionally jostling her. Although it wasn't a chaotic scene, the occasional bump was annoying. Scanning her surroundings, she spotted an empty iron resting chair nearby.

She navigated through the somewhat disoriented family members, taking three or four steps to reach the chair. Finally settling down in the midst of the bustling environment, she rarely resisted the urge to check her phone. Instead, she decided to observe the people nearby.

Above each person's head, much like titles in an online novel, floated various colorful book titles that represented significant aspects of their lives.

With nothing else to occupy her, and unsure of how long her roommate's reexamination would take, Luo Shi Qin casually tapped on the latest chapter of one of these intriguing life stories.

【《Love Me and the One I Love》 Latest Chapter: Chapter 156 "Mother and Child Are Safe"】

Opening the white book with bold, imposing characters on its cover, Luo Shi Qin gingerly turned its pages. The moment her eyes landed on the title, it evoked memories of her youthful forays into the realm of heart-wrenching literature. A smile involuntarily crept across her lips. Those were the days when she embarked on her writing journey, deeply entangled in this genre...

【From the halls of high school to the corridors of university, our love story unfolded, envied by all who witnessed it. Yet, hidden beneath our passionate facade, I alone knew that the dreaded seven-year itch was creeping upon us...】

【Today marked Lan Lan's due date. I dashed to the hospital with urgency, my heart racing with anticipation.】

【Do I still love Lan Lan? The question gnawed at me. When Little Ping's voice broke through the silence, inquiring why I hadn't joined her yet, I hesitated...】

Luo Shi Qin's beaming countenance froze, and confusion painted her features. "...?"

Her CPU whirred in disbelief as her thoughts raced.—

You heartless scoundrel, cheating on your wife during her pregnancy?!!

With a sharp scrape, Luo Shi Qin abruptly rose from her chair, sending it skittering backward.

She flung the white book into the air before she could finish reading it. The righteous spirit of her college days blazed in her uncorrupted eyes as she glared fiercely at the man.

A deep frown marred Luo Shi Qin's face. She was on the brink of verbal reprimand when an invisible hand clamped over her mouth.

His wife was still in the throes of labor. If this revelation reached her ears now, who could predict the depths of her fury?

Pregnancy was an arduous journey for women, and their bodies remained fragile after childbirth. Though Luo Shi Qin had never experienced it herself, she had devoured numerous educational videos, prompting a momentary pause in her judgment.

However, her hesitation was short-lived, as an unexpected incident unfolded before her.

A cacophonous clamor seized the entire hospital staff's attention. Initially, it appeared innocuous, but as the collective gaze of the hospital personnel turned feverish, the titles of books above them appeared infected, twisting into chaotic forms, ultimately coalescing into crimson book titles. Luo Shi Qin's heart sank.

This was dire.

Drawing nearer, she discerned the altered titles, and dread washed over her like a tidal wave. Oh, heavens, it was 《Surviving the Apocalypse》!

Ever since Luo Shi Qin stumbled upon her newfound ability, her perspective on life had taken a spine-tingling twist. Typically, she used her newfound abilities to avert disasters, tweak scenarios, and orchestrate serene love stories. But today marked a first—a situation where the script had been forcibly rewritten, thrusting her into uncharted territory.

As she observed the people around her, their eyes gradually reddening and bizarre droplets of saliva dangling from their lips, Luo Shi Qin sprang into action. She wasted no time in seizing a hefty red fire extinguisher from the cabinet.

In the blink of an eye, everyone, transformed into grotesque monstrosities, lunged toward her. Leading the gruesome charge was the scumbag himself.

Initially, she had contemplated using the fire extinguisher as a makeshift weapon and making a hasty retreat to the second floor in search of her roommate. However, a split-second decision shifted her course. With sheer determination, she hoisted the hefty red iron object and swung it mercilessly at the scumbag's skull!

A dull thud echoed as her strike sent him sprawling, taking down several other nightmarish pedestrians in the process.

Capitalizing on this brief respite, Luo Shi Qin cracked open the fire extinguisher. As the dry powder hissed out, she dashed toward the second floor.

Approaching her destination, the extinguisher's contents ran dry. It could still serve as a defensive tool, but it came at the cost of her dwindling energy. She made a resolute choice to abandon it, opting instead to tossing the iron object against an approaching monstrosity.

Her roommate's health had taken a nosedive recently, evident in her pronounced dark circles and disrupted sleep. A month ago, after a medical check-up, the doctor had prescribed some medication, urging her to rest more and return if any unusual symptoms cropped up.

Initially, it seemed like a minor issue, with her roommate diligently following the prescribed treatment. However, as the medication's course neared its end, her roommate confided in Luo Shi Qin with an air of secrecy, revealing an ominous revelation—she had acquired an apocalyptic system.

"You've been nose-deep in those novels, huh?" Luo Shi Qin declared, raising her head to crack open her roommate's life book. Pages rustled beneath her fingers as she added, "We're living in a rational society now. It's all about embracing socialist science, no more of that old-fashioned superstitious nonsense."

"But aren't most of those world-ending scenarios caused by rogue scientists?" Her roommate, her intelligent eyes brimming with confusion, countered.

After plowing through countless chapters, Luo Shi Qin closed the life book titled "Sunny and Cheerful University Students." It left her feeling mentally foggy, those "clear but foolish" characters messing with her head. It took a moment to regain her composure before she said, "There's no such thing as an apocalypse. Don't buy into rumors, and don't spread them."

With the light-hearted tone of your '"Sunny and Cheerful University Students' title, do you seriously expect a spine-tingling, post-apocalyptic escape? Snap out of it.

But she couldn't resist her roommate's heartfelt plea, and a month later, they found themselves trapped in this forsaken hospital.

Never again will I trust book titles!

Luo Shi Qin raged inwardly as she sprinted down the corridor.

What does this have to do with a story peddling itself as 'sweet,' only to thrust a protagonist into a world where they lose family, friends, and loved ones, left to face responsibility and isolation until the end?

Definitely a deceitful book title!

Remaining on high alert these past few days, she never anticipated her roommate's life book setting would betray them.

Luo Shi Qin hadn't been too keen on keeping tabs on which department her roommate had been assigned to, but she had a vague sense of direction. She could only discern if a room was occupied by the sounds emanating from within as she sped by.

Then, from the room on the right, a noise. Without a second thought, Luo Shi Qin twisted the doorknob and barged in.

Once inside, she didn't hesitate for an instant. Locking the door quickly, she barricaded it with whatever objects she could find.

Finally completing her makeshift defense, Luo Shi Qin let out a long, relieved breath. She turned her gaze toward the figure in the room.

Seated quietly on the hospital bed was a young girl, her face innocent and cherubic, belying her tender age, fixated on Luo Shi Qin.

Despite Luo Shi Qin's unsettling actions, she remained silent, merely tilting her head slightly before softly inquiring, "Hello, may I help you?"

Her pallid complexion hinted at a recent recovery from a grave illness, her speech gentle yet commanding, a paradoxical presence.

Luo Shi Qin's eyes couldn't help but wander to the person's head.

Remarkably, this individual's lifebook appeared untainted.

This revelation set a peculiar itch crawling beneath Luo Shi Qin's skin. She discreetly pretended to scratch her head, all the while discreetly opening the most recent chapter of this lifebook.

Luo Shi Qin: "..."

She refreshed the page repeatedly, but the same phrase continued to reappear.

Luo Shi Qin: "..."

Devoid of coins, she reluctantly closed the stranger's lifebook.

The hospital room fell eerily silent, the echoes of screams and nails scraping against the walls gradually fading into the shadows. Luo Shi Qin knew she had a chance to escape now, but her gaze lingered on the young woman on the bed.

After a moment's hesitation, she offered a piece of advice, her voice barely above a whisper, "Before I go, remember to lock the door behind me. If I can't mend this mess in time, we might just be on the brink of an apocalypse."

"Apocalypse?" The young woman furrowed her brow, then her features softened into a faint smile. "Is this another one of those new games?"

Luo Shi Qin sighed. "I wish it were that simple, but it's not."

If only the settings could be fixed, then none of this would be unfolding, and the other girl wouldn't be burdened with memories of their conversation. Luo Shi Qin rarely held back, so she continued, "But even in this grim world, what choice do we have but to try and save it?" She arched an eyebrow. "I haven't had my fill of bubble tea, enjoyed a hearty hotpot, reveled in the beauty of the scenery, or owned a cat or a dog yet. I have these achievements to unlock before I can peacefully depart, right?"

The girl on the hospital bed seemed lost in contemplation.

Luo Shi Qin gingerly swung open the creaky door, casting a wary glance outside to ensure no lurking horrors awaited. Her lips curled into a compassionate smile as she delivered her parting words, "Oh, one more thing. Don't fret too much. Youth's on your side, and a radiant future awaits. Embrace the doctor's care, and who knows, you might outlast that tortoise's journey."

The female student blinked, befuddled. "Thank you... huh?"

Luo Shi Qin concealed the depths of her sympathy behind a reassuring smile and then exited the hospital room.

She had a mission: tracking down her infamous roommate.

To safeguard her own peaceful existence, she needed to initiate change, beginning with herself, tending to the little things that surrounded her, and ultimately, rescuing her notorious roommate. :D

**

Inside the hospital room, only Xu Jin Yi remained. She sat upon the bed, perplexed and disoriented, her recently awakened mind slowly piecing together the situation—

While the words of the young girl about the world's end eluded her comprehension, did she truly believe Xu Jin Yi was terminally ill??

All she'd suffered was an unexplained fever, landing her in this room for intravenous treatment.

A wistful smile touched her lips as she summoned the nurse with the call button by her bedside. Soon, a nurse hurriedly entered the room.

Even though there had been a misunderstanding, gratitude welled up within her.

As the IV needle was carefully withdrawn from her hand, Xu Jin Yi pondered the girl's words.

It was time to confront the looming challenges with an entirely new perspective.
