The infrastructure’s Guide [基建指南] by 岛里天下 Chapter 1

In the afternoon, the forest was incredibly sultry. The tightly clustered branches of the trees were wide enough to tightly cover the blue sky.

A vigorous figure marched up and down through the thick undergrowth and over the twisted roots in the stifling air.

Qiu Juan slowed down and stepped forward cautiously after leaping from the root of the last giant tree, which was more than ten meters wide.

A pair of slender and well-proportioned legs covered with animal hides, walked on the flat ground. He had appealing features and clear and bright amber eyes. Among the sub-females of the Yanlin tribe, Qiu Juan was the most beautiful sub-female.

Nonetheless, he didn’t rely on appearance to gain other male’s prey. He was a highly capable sub-female. The blood stains on the stone spear and the two fat hares on his hands was the most compelling proof.

There were a few gorgeous and skilled sub-females in the tribe like Qiu Juan. Excellent sub-females can have many male suitors, but the faint breath on Qiu Juan's body discouraged the other males.

This breath came from a powerful male.

In the Yanlin tribe, there were three types of humans: men, females, and sub-females in between. Among them, males may form relationships with females and sub-females. After they have publicly become mates, the males will leave their own breath on the females or sub-females to warn other males not to approach their partners.

Despite the fact that they had not yet held an official ceremony to become lifelong partners, they considered themselves a pair. He had a both powerful and attractive partner with whom he often hunted. Many people in the tribe were aware of the relationship between the two of them.

Qiu Juan held the two fat hares and gazed at the sky. He had just reached the edge of the forest, where the trees weren’t as dense. It was easier to see the change in the weather here. The sky was getting darker. He knew from prior experience that it would rain soon and the rain will be heavy.

To be on the safe side, he turned to return home.

Despite the gloomy weather, he was in a good mood. His partner, Kong Jia, will go to the tribe's chief in a few days to request the ceremony of lifelong companion.

Since sub-female weren’t as fertile as females and resembled men rather than women, not every sub-female could have the protection of a male.

As a result, many males were unwilling to commit to long-term relationships with sub-females. Even if they did, if the sub-female was unable to give birth for a long time after they become partners, the male would choose to mate with another female, meaning that sub-females couldn’t be the sole partner. The sub-female will then have to serve alongside a male and another female.

It’s fine if they live in harmony, but from the perspective of tribal growth, many males with sub-female and females were attentive to both at first, but when the female had offspring, the male would give more attention and resources to her. Since sub-females were stronger than females, the sub-female would not only be left out, but he would also be expected to bear the brunt of hunting and caring for the family.

Some sub-females were unable to cope with the male's lack of affection and protection and were compelled to hunt aggressively for attention. They eventually become sad and ill. They either succumb to an illness or suffer a deadly accident while hunting absentmindedly.

Overall, the ending was bleak.

Yet, unlike most males, Qiu Juan’s partners thoughts were different from those of other males.

“Whether you can give me a child or not, Qiu Juan, I will only have you in my life.”

Thinking of Kong Jia's handsome face, his gentle voice and the firm promise, Qiu Juan involuntarily lifted the corners of his mouth.

The stronger the male's ability, the more mates he might have, but Kong Jia vowed to have only him. When faced with such a promise, even if the sub-female was as strong as male or stronger, the sub-female would been touched.

Qiu Juan, of course, was no different. After hearing his sincerity, he allowed Kong Jia to leave his breath on him before the ceremony, leaving no way for him to later change his mind and let other males approach him.

A thunderstorm abruptly exploded as he was reminiscing about the past, and the loud bang distracted his thoughts. He tracked the sound and discovered that lightning struck a nearby tree, severing the dense branches and splitting the tree trunk in two.

Qiu Juan knew from experience that he couldn't run around in a thunderstorm and had to find a spot to hide. He often came to this place to hunt, and he recalled an empty cave not far away that had no people living in it, so he rushed to his destination with the two hares in hand.

By the time he arrived at the cave entrance, the thunder had become denser and louder. Qiu Juan was concerned that if it continued to thunder, the trees would catch fire from the lightning bolt, resulting in a forest fire.

Something like this had happened before.

But, after a while, the steady rain cooled him down, and so also the hot weather.

He was standing at the cave's entrance. The rain was pouring heavily, and the temperature in the forest was rapidly dropping. The chill prompted him to go a little further inside the cave.

Since no one lived here, there was no campfire to lit. The sky had darkened and no light illuminated inside. The cave was dark and scary, but he was unbothered. For one, he’d been here before, and second, he was a bold sub-female who wasn’t afraid of the dark.

When he made contact with the cave’s wall, he put down the rabbits and sat down. He was still exhausted after running for most of the day. It just so happened that he could take advantage of the rain and relax for a bit. He'd head to his cave once the rain ceased. He only hoped his mother won't be worried about him.

The rain hasn't stopped for a long time, and he was so bored that he was about to fall asleep when he was shaken awake by the abrupt sound of a very loud voice in the empty cave.

"Let's go in there and hide." The thick voice belonged to a male.

Because of Qiu Juan's acute sense of hearing, he immediately recognized the voice as that of his partner.

Did Kong Jia get caught in the rain too?

In his heart, a dreadful feeling emerged. He asked Kong Jia to go hunting with him this morning, but Kong Jia refused because he was kicked when catching the bison was still a little sore.

So why did he go out?

If he didn’t pay attention to the rainy weather, he might get new ailments on top of his old injuries, and his body wouldn’t be able to recover.

He immediately rose from the ground and was about to go outside to have a look when the male who was clearly taller than him came into the cave first. Qiu Juan paused with his bare feet, staring at the male who had entered. Kong Jia was not alone. He was joined by a beautiful and alluring female.

The girl had developed quite well; the body’s curves were eye-catching; the round hips gave way to long, slender legs, and the narrow waist offered a firm grip where the male could rest his hand.

Qiu Juan's brows were furrowed.

Tang Tong, the deputy chief’s daughter, was the stunning female next to his partner. She also had two powerful older brothers, so she had a high standing in the tribe.

Tang Tong turned fifteen last month, and now that she was mature enough to be a partner, she seemed to be even more attractive as an adult than she had been before.

"Brother Kong Jia, I'm all wet. You should wipe me.” This sorrowful voice was tinged with coquettishness.

The tall male smiled helplessly. “Well, I’ll wipe you.” He brushed the rain droplets away with the back of his palm.

Tang Tong twisted her delicate body and leaned on the male's powerful arms. "Thank you, Brother Kong Jia."

The two flirted ignorantly, filling the cave with strong taste of the male’s breaths desire.

Qiu Juan remained in the dark, smelling the smell, his expression worsening as his need to blend with the dark cave became stronger.

He couldn’t believe his formerly reliable partner, who swore days before to go to the chief and become lifelong partners, was the same one before him entangled with another female.

"Brother Kong Jia, I heard you and Qiu Juan will be lifelong partners."

"Who did you listen to, don't talk nonsense."

Tang Tong pushed away the male who was holding her waist, despite the fact that if he wished, the breath on his body could easily keep her in his arms. She was enthralled, but she kept her cool.

"Even if there is no such thing, Brother Kong Jia and Qiu Juan are tribes recognized partners now. Brother Kong Jia is a powerful male in the tribe, and there must be more than one partner in the future, but a sub-female like Qiu Juan is unworthy of you. Let us not dwell on whatever he can give birth in the future. For the time being, there’s still a mother in his cave who’s incapable to hunt, unable to work, and can only be supported by others. The male didn’t refute, but instead he raised the female’s chin and said. “I’m with Qiu Juan.” At the same time, he felt sorry for him, a sub-female dragged down by his inept mother. Kong Jia had always felt pity for this kind of disadvantage.

"Brother Kong Jia is too kind, which isn’t a good thing. You should hurry up and speak to him. Afterwards, we’ll be able to go to the chief and hold our lifelong partner ceremony. All in the tribe are aware of the Tang family's status. My brothers will take care of us. My father is the deputy chief. We will undoubtedly live well.”
